Humility does not feel it has a right to better treatment than Jesus got. “If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household” (Matthew 10:25). Therefore humility does not return evil for evil. It is not a life based on its perceived rights. “Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.… When he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting to him who judges justly” (1 Peter 2:21–23).
